Gynaecology or gynecology (see spelling differences) refers to the surgical specialty dealing with diseases of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina, and ovaries). Literally, outside medicine, it means "the science of women." Almost all modern gynaecologists are also obstetricians; see Obstetrics and gynaecology.
